The role of the regional Board is to support members where they live and work; one
way in which we do this with effect, is to promote the role of the marketing professional
in driving business growth and CIM membership as the underpinning ‘mark’ that identifies
the marketing professional. To that end, CIM is committed to engaging with the Government
on all matters that impact upon business opportunity; most recently that required
a response to the Northern Ireland draft Economic Strategy, which in its first public
draft made no overt reference to marketing.
In response to our input, the final version of the strategy published by the Northern
Ireland Executive now includes a formal commitment to strengthen sales and marketing
skills. The Board is following this, contributing to the debate on mechanisms to
deliver on the commitment and engaging with the political parties to secure funding
support for its implementation.
Our activities
To support and encourage those at the start of their marketing careers, we held our first 'The Pitch NI' competition in 2012.
Open to all college and university students in Northern Ireland, as well as CIM studying members, the 2013 competition was organised
in cooperation with Subway and the winners were a team called CAMeleons from the University of Ulster Jordanstown.
The team members were Rosalie Edge, Roisin Daly and Michael Finan, who all win a year’s Affiliate membership with CIM.
A video of the event will be available shortly.
As for the regular events programme, a significant effort has gone into devising
a carefully-targeted events calendar focussed on delivering CPD and learning opportunities
that help our members stay not just up-to-date but technically and creatively 'ahead'.
There are a wide range of CPD activities in addition to local CIM events that can
contribute towards you gaining and maintaining your Chartered Marketer status. See
www.cim.co.uk/cpdactivities for details.
We publish a quarterly newsletter and if you have any suggestions for articles or
you have ideas to share about how The Chartered Institute of Marketing can help marketing professionals
in Ireland, please contact Richard Houdmont. You can also keep in touch by following
us on Twitter @CIM_Ireland.
