Working with other Kent-based professional bodies, media organisations and business
exhibitions, the Kent Branch provides a range of activities for the county's
marketers. These include:
1. CPD events and networking
Throughout the year we run a series of events designed to develop your knowledge
in key areas. Our flagship event is the
Kent Annual Marketing Lecture which is normally held in October and has
featured presentations from Richard Reed (Innocent Drinks), Mark Palmer (Green &
Black's), Huw Morgan (HSBC) and Clarence Mitchell (LEWIS PR). Other events include
three-and-a-half hour workshops on topics such as copywriting or Google Analytics,
as well as evening presentations and all provide great networking opportunities.
2. The Kent Student Chapter
Supported by our Kent Branch, but run entirely by undergraduate students at Canterbury
Christ Church University, the Student Chapter was officially launched in 2008 and
has grown in numbers every year. Its mission is to provide students with practical
marketing experience that complements their degrees and interests, enabling them
to develop their skills and enhance their future job prospects.
3. Small business initiative
We are keen to raise the profile and recognition of the professionalism of CIM members
by sharing knowledge and expertise with the small business community
throughout Kent. Using professional marketers and aimed at small and medium businesses,
the 'Simply Better Marketing' programme helps people to make
the most of marketing resources to grow their business. For more information on the programme, e-mail
Melanie Scott.
4. Online discussion
We have an active LinkedIn Group where members can ask questions, make new contacts,
share views and expertise and contribute to shaping the activities of the Kent branch.
We also publish a monthly blog on our website which members and non-members are
free to comment on.
5. Regular e-newsletter
The Kent branch publish a regular e-newsletter with lots of valuable information, member
interviews and key features to keep members up to date with branch activities and best practice.

Bringing marketing to your community.
Welcome
Previously known as the Solent branch, our new name (acquired in 2012) describes
more accurately the broad area covered by this region, which includes the whole
of Hampshire, South Wiltshire and the Isle of Wight.
With over 1,000 studying and practicing members, we are a rich community of marketers
from an extensive range of industries including public and private sectors, large
corporations to SMEs, educational institutions, agencies and consultancies.
Support for members
Acting as ambassadors for CIM in promoting excellence in the field of marketing,
your local branch committee aims to deliver value to members through learning, development
and networking opportunities; driven by this wealth of experience, and through the
activities outlined below.
So whether you are a CIM member or not, just starting out in your marketing career
and looking for advice and guidance, or a seasoned professional keen to understand
the latest trends, address current issues or exchange ideas with peers, we’d
be very pleased to hear from you, or better still meet you at one of our events.
Our activities
Regular events and meetings are organised by our branch committee (link to branch
committee).
- CPD Events - In support of CIM’s
continuing professional development (CPD) programme we host a number of debates
and workshops on a range of topics across the region each year which generate valuable
CPD hours for attending members.
- Networking Events - These informal and relaxed
occasions provide an opportunity for CIM members and non-members alike to meet with
local marketers local to their area and discuss ideas for future initiatives with
members of the branch committee.
- Mentoring - We are in the process of developing
the CIM Mentoring Network, a central
mentoring scheme which will be in place within your region by 1 July 2013. Look
out for details in the new year. In the meantime, if you have any queries regarding
this new central scheme, please e-mail mentoring@cim.co.uk.
- Local Business and Educational initiatives - Dedicated
to raising awareness of CIM and developing lasting relationships between local businesses
and educational institutions, the committee is always open to explore mutually beneficial
opportunities.

The Sussex branch has more than 650 members - more than half of whom are senior
or middle managers, and 110 are Chartered Marketers.
To support them and other marketers in the region in their career development, the

These are open to both members and non-members.
We do this through a number of channels and welcome your participation:
1. Events
These cover both strategic and tactical marketing topics, from the basics and traditional
marketing to understanding the fast changing digital world; our events are educational
and enlightening and you can also earn CPD hours by attending.

Some of the Sussex events are free opportunities to network with your peers, discuss
new ideas and get support for your current challenges. They can also be a great
opportunity to develop new business opportunities and grow your network.

With over 2,650 members, the Thames Valley branch is one of The Chartered Institute
of Marketing's largest branches. Covering Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire,
our membership includes directors and senior managers, professionals, practitioners
and students with a common interest in marketing.
Over a quarter of our total membership are studying for CIM's qualifications and
we are working hard to achieve closer relationships with all the study centres in
our area. Studying members are entitled to discounts on many of our events.
The branch is run by volunteers and we need help to run events, work with educational
establishments and devise new services that bring value to our members. In return,
members can contribute directly to the delivery of CIM's services in their area
and earn CPD points towards achieving or retaining their Chartered Marketer status.
Our activities
Our events and meetings are organised by our committee of volunteers. These events
are delivered in three broad categories:
- Business meetings usually of one to one and a half hours on a marketing
or related topic.
- Workshops that run over three hours and provide an in-depth study
of a topic.
- Headline lectures by senior business figures on aspects of strategic
business and marketing interest.
Mentoring
We have recently launched a mentoring service, whereby Chartered Marketers offer
their advice and experience free of charge to those starting out or climbing the
career ladder.
