Emeritus Professor Strathclyde University and Past National Chair of the Institute. Michael Baker TD, BA, BSc.(Econ.), DipM, Cert ITP (Harvard), DBA (Harvard), LLD (hc), DUniv (hc), FRSE, FRSA, Hon FCIM, Hon FAM, FCAM, FScotvec, FSQA, FEMAC, Chartered Marketer and President Academy of Marketing.
After University and National Service Michael joined Richard Thomas and Baldwins Ltd. as an Industrial salesman and spent six years selling tinplate and innovative steel products.
Asked to teach marketing on the Institute’s Diploma, he took the qualification in 1965 and gained a promotion as Lecturer in Hull. Shortly afterwards he was awarded a Fellowship to study at Harvard Business School and gained a DBA, after which he returned to Scotland as Founding Professor of the Department of Marketing at Stathclyde University and pioneered the first Honours degree in Marketing in the UK.
Michael has held a number of positions with us including Chair of both the Glasgow and Strathclyde Branches and on the National Marketing Education Board, National Chair, Chair of the Fellowship and Membership Panels and was the Founding Dean of The Chartered Institute of Marketing's Senate.
