Welcome

The Institute is pleased to offer marketers in Wales a mix of events that reflect the changing characteristics of marketing and business activity throughout the region.

The economy in Wales is complex: the largest manufacturing site in the UK is located in Wales and yet we have relatively few Welsh-headquartered large companies. The economy includes strategically important sectors ranging from aerospace and bioscience through to creative industries - not forgetting other economically important sectors such as food, leisure and tourism. Businesses in Wales increasingly think, act and market globally.

Whilst the Institute supports a growing number of marketers in the public sector and larger corporate organisations, growth in the Welsh economy may increasingly depend upon the agile, innovative, creative and entrepreneurial small-firm sector. That growth is ever-more reliant on professional marketing undertaken by professional marketers who have a strong and respected professional body to represent them.

Professional development is the key to career development and we encourage you to attend one of our events in the coming year and make your contribution to professional marketing in Wales.

Our activities

In October 2008 we launched Canmol: Wales Marketing Awards. The awards are a celebration of excellence in ideas and execution. There’s an emphasis on the fact that marketing extends beyond “the 4 Ps” hence they’re “awards sans frontièrs”, without false categories, limits or restrictions.

See details of the 2010 winners in the related downloads section.

See 'related downloads' on this page and also links (menu on the left) to North and South Wales branches for reviews of recent events in Wales.

The Wales Board has responded to the Welsh Assembly Government Economic Renewal Programme consultation. For details please see the Economic Renewal Programme response under 'related downloads'.

We financially support a number of Student Communities (also known as Student Chapters) throughout Wales. These are student societies, supported by an academic mentor, for those who wish to pursue a career in marketing. For further details see related downloads.

The Archbishop of Wales, Dr Barry Morgan, presented Business Ethics, a thought-provoking paper, to a Professions Group Wales meeting in January 2011 (see related downloads).

We are publishing it in the expectation that it will stimulate debate and discussion amongst CIM members. Do we need an 'MBA Oath' or is membership of a professional body like CIM adequate to brand individuals as being ethical?
