Institute’s marketing qualifications promoted in Kenya

25 January 2010 – Visiting Kenya this week are Sue Lawrance and Matthew Brown from the leading international marketing body, The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). They are in Nairobi to not only support the work of the CIM Kenya office through a series of events, media interviews, local tutor updates and company presentations, but also to promote the Institute’s new syllabus for its popular Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Marketing, a qualification that has been specifically designed for marketers working in the tourist industry, and is based on the skills employers are looking for - practical applied standards for immediate benefit in the workplace.

The Chartered Institute of Marketing’s new Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Marketing provides tourism marketers with an opportunity to gain an internationally-recognised professional marketing qualification that is relevant to their key industry of tourism. The new diploma encompasses not only travel and tourism, but hospitality too and is extremely practical with a clear focus on the promotional mix by including; advertising, PR, and digital aspects.

Kenya is one of The Chartered Institute of Marketing’s largest markets in East Africa and its Kenyan Branch, established in 1998, now has over 400 marketers currently studying for the Institute’s qualifications and a further 200 professional members. Those studying for a CIM qualification have grown by about 70% over the last two years showing an increasing trend towards gaining a professional marketing qualification after a university degree.

The Chartered Institute of Marketing plays a key role in promoting professional standards in marketing education internationally, and Sue Lawrance and Matthew Brown’s visit to Kenya is one of a series of trips planned to the Institute’s accredited education centres around the world to promote the Institute's qualifications. Professional qualifications, set to the same standards worldwide, are portable across boundaries. Kenya study centres are accredited to exactly the same standards as UK or Sri Lankan centres.

Commenting on the visit, Sue Lawrance said;

In an increasingly tough jobs market, marketers who hold The Chartered Institute of Marketing’s internationally-recognised professional marketing qualifications will have a clear advantage over other candidates no matter where in the world they are working. With employers becoming ever more selective, those marketers who are able to demonstrate their knowledge, professionalism, and commitment to a career in marketing through our qualifications, have much to offer employers.
