Marketing Diploma Exam Results Up
10 March 2010 – The exam results of The Chartered Institute of Marketing’s new Professional Diploma in Marketing and Chartered Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing are now published and more students than ever are celebrating success with some units of the Professional Diploma showing a 20% increase on the previous syllabus.
The new Chartered Postgraduate Diploma, which was launched in July 2009, also had improved results on the previous year with an overall 10% improvement on last year’s results.
Commenting on the exam results, Professor Keith Fletcher, Director of Education at The Chartered Institute of Marketing said;
It’s very pleasing to see such a marked improvement in results, especially with a new challenging syllabus that emphasises the professional approach required from Marketers. These qualifications are very demanding and do require a great deal of commitment and dedication and successful students, and their employers, have every right to be very pleased. Employers should see a real benefit from staff as these business-relevant qualifications leave students better equipped with practical skills to deliver immediate value to the organisation.
With competition in the profession hotting up and top marketing roles difficult to secure, every marketer, whatever their age, needs to demonstrate a thorough and up-to-date understanding of the skills and expectations needed for their position if career advancement is expected. Marketers need to ensure that they can confidently demonstrate their positive contribution to an organisation, and those who have worked hard to achieve these professional qualifications will be able to confidently do this.
These two diplomas are designed as practitioner qualifications, based around the Government Occupational Standards, and contain content developed from employer feedback stating the skills and competencies they expect marketers to have. The syllabus ensures that the qualifications are relevant for today’s marketing practitioners and assessments are mainly through work-based projects, which ensures that the benefits are immediately realised in the workplace.
The Chartered Institute of Marketing periodically reviews its qualifications to ensure that they are relevant to both marketers’ needs and the requirements of business. Over the years, the core theory of marketing has changed little. However the role of marketing in business worldwide has changed significantly, largely due to technology and a growing awareness of corporate social responsibility but also by organisations recognising that they have a number of stakeholders rather than simply a number of different external customer groups, and these new qualifications take these subtle changes into consideration.
