Research initiative
The Institute offers sponsorship via its Research Initiative to those undertaking academic research into suitable marketing issues. We encourage and support research that develops and promotes the practice of marketing.
Research criteria
Our key criterion for CIM-sponsored research is that we feel it is capable of having a direct impact on the practitioner community. Our aim is not to achieve publication in academic journals; rather it is to demonstrate that academic research has real and lasting value to those engaged in the day to day practice of marketing.
An application will be judged on its academic rigour, its overall quality, its originality and the potential contribution it makes to the practice of marketing.
Grants and support
Support may be financial, or in some other form, although there are limits on the amount of financial assistance that will be granted. The maximum grant awarded will, in all but exceptional circumstances, be £6000. Awards are made on the basis of the scope of each project.
Proposal review process
The research proposal will be reviewed on behalf of The Chartered Institute of Marketing by the Research Committee of the Academy of Marketing and they will advise on the quality of the proposal and make recommendations to CIM as appropriate.
The Chartered Institute of Marketing’s Research and Information department will make the final decision as to whether or not to award a grant and there will be no right of appeal against this decision.
We are grateful to the help extended to us by the Academy of Marketing in developing this initiative and also to The Chartered Institute of Marketing Charitable Trust for their generous support.
