Scoping the job specification

Download the Marketing Job Description booklet (see member content) for guidance on profiles for a number of different client and agency job roles.

Determining the skills the person must have for the job

The Professional Marketing Standards framework (see related links) outlines the skills marketers should have at each job level

Specifying the qualifications

Academic qualifications will provide you with information on the person's level of knowledge but will not necessarily indicate how good they are at applying this.

Holiding a professional qualification will give you a guide to their specific level of competence due to the practical nature of most professional qualifications. Marketing qualifications from The Chartered Institute of Marketing (see related links) are based on the Professional Marketing Standards framework which means that upon achieving a qualification, an individual will gain the relevant competencies required to do their job at that level.

Assessments are practical and test whether the individual is capable of applying their knowledge to their own business situation.

Placing a job advertisement
