Getting started in marketing can feel just as daunting as it does exciting. It is an industry full of opportunity, creativity and constant evolution, but when you are starting at the very beginning, it can be difficult to know where to start or which direction to take. With so many different roles, industries, and specialisms available, feeling unsure is completely normal.
Whether you are a student exploring career options, interested in changing careers, or just curious about marketing generally, one thing matters more than anything else: an open mind. You do not need to have your entire career mapped out straight away. Curiosity, willingness to learn and the confidence to try will take you much further than having a perfect plan.
So how do you get started?
Before jumping straight onto LinkedIn and dissecting job descriptions, it’s worth taking some time to reflect on what you enjoy and what comes naturally to you. Marketing is an incredibly broad industry, and different roles suit very different skills and personalities.
