    The Levitt Group ‘Five great minds’ events bring together leading executives, academics and authors to share their knowledge with the CIM’s most knowledgeable, experienced and senior members. It’s an opportunity to listen to and question experts at the forefront of their field, network with peers and offers a value-for-time way to maintain your professional knowledge and gain CPD.  

    This exciting and informative day, chaired by Dawn Holmes FCIM, CIM Trustee and Director at Insight Magicians, includes sessions from five leading contemporary thinkers and covers a wide range of topics. With expert talks on local politics, new technology, new ways of working, community engagement and senior level career development, there’s something to fuel both individual advancement and company best practices.

    09:45 Welcome and introductions – Dawn Holmes

    10:00 ‘The Northern Powerhouse – political slogan or programme for change?’ – Ed Cox, Director at IPPR North. Ed will talk about the evolution of the 'Northern Powerhouse' concept and the extent to which it has had – and continues to have – the power to transform the northern economy and close the so-called north-south divide.

    11:00 ‘Competitive advantage from AI’ – Dr Reza Salehnejad, Lecturer in Economics at Manchester Business School. Reza will discuss how firms can possibly capitalize on emerging technological advances to create a competitive edge.

    12:00 Lunch

    13:00 ‘Collaborative advantage – how collaboration beats competition as a strategy for success’ – Paul Skinner, Founder of Agency of the Future and CIM’s Northern Marketer of the Year 2014 and 2016. Paul will talk about his first book ‘Collaborative Advantage: How collaboration beats competition as a strategy for success’ which will be published by Little, Brown Book Group in June 2018.

    14:00 Coffee break

    14:30 ‘Staff engagement and business strategy’ – Sandy Lindsay MB, Founder and Chair of Tangerine and The Juice Academy. Sandy will talk about how in 2017, when Tangerine turned fifteen, it became an employee-owned partnership with 64% of its shares now owned by its partners (Tangerine employees), thus fulfilling a promise she made when she launched the business.

    15:30 From marketing to CEO ‘A new way of life on becoming a CEO for a global brand’ – Marnie Millard, Group Chief Executive of Nichols Plc. Marnie will talk about being part of a global brand, working in different cultures, the city element of her role (investors and financial institutions) and the transition from being a marketer to a general management role with huge financial emphasis.
