Build the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to carry out an effective professional marketing role in the workplace.

Designed for marketing assistants and people beginning their first marketing role, this Level 4 qualification supports progression towards Marketing Executive level. You’ll explore the role of marketing in organisations, customer behaviour in the digital age, market research, campaign planning and the use of digital channels, content and marketing technology.

This qualification is designed for people who are ready to move beyond foundation-level marketing knowledge and develop the practical skills needed for a Marketing Executive role.

It may be right for you if you:

  • Have around one year’s experience in marketing
  • Currently work in a marketing assistant, marketing support or junior marketing role.
  • Have completed the CIM Level 3 Foundation Certificate in Professional & Digital Marketing
  • Have completed a relevant Level 3 marketing apprenticeship
  • Want to progress towards a Level 6 CIM qualification in future

Successful completion of Level 4 supports progression to all Level 6 CIM qualifications.

You’ll need at least one of the following:

  • A minimum of one year’s experience in the marketing industry
  • The CIM Level 3 Foundation Certificate in Professional & Digital Marketing
  • A relevant Level 3 marketing qualification
  • A Level 3 marketing-related apprenticeship, such as Multi-channel Marketer or Marketing Assistant

If English is not your first language, you’ll usually need an IELTS Academic score of 6.5, with at least 6.0 in each component, a Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English at grade B or above, or an accepted equivalent achieved within the last two years.

The total cost of your qualification is made up of:

  • Tuition fees charged by your chosen Accredited Study Centre
  • CIM membership, which is required to book assessments and access student resources
  • CIM assessment fees

Tuition fees vary between study centres, so we recommend comparing providers before enrolling.

The current assessment fees for the Level 4 Certificate are £520 at the Global Standard and Developing Markets rate, or £460 at the Emerging Markets rate. These figures are based on passing all modules at the first attempt. Resits require additional fees

Core Responsible Marketing Understand how responsible marketing supports trust, transparency, sustainability, diversity and inclusion in response to changing social and environmental expectations.
Core Planning Integrated Campaigns Learn how to plan integrated campaigns across online and offline channels, understand the role of content in the customer lifecycle and measure campaign effectiveness.
Specialist Content Marketing Learn how to create content that supports marketing goals, customer journeys and campaign activity, including the use of different content formats.
Specialist Search Engine Optimisation Understand the role of search engine marketing, key success factors for SEO and how paid search campaigns can support marketing goals.
Specialist MarTech Explore how marketing technology, including AI, supports activity across the customer journey, paid campaigns, social media, relationship building and analytics.
Specialist Social Media Marketing Learn how to apply social media channels, create suitable content, develop a social media plan and measure outcomes.

To achieve the Certificate, you must complete Marketing Impact and choose three elective modules.

You can choose your electives in one of two ways:

  • Choose one module from Responsible Marketing or Planning Integrated Campaigns, then choose two digital modules.
  • Choose both Responsible Marketing and Planning Integrated Campaigns, then choose one digital module.

Each qualification route totals 50 credits. You can achieve the Extended Certificate by completing one additional module.
