Overview

Start your marketing career with a recognised qualification that gives you a strong grounding in the principles of professional and digital marketing.

Designed for aspiring marketers and people beginning their first marketing role, this Level 3 qualification develops the knowledge and practical understanding needed to work effectively at Marketing Assistant level. You will explore how marketing supports organisations, how customers behave and how businesses use content, channels, research and insight to make better marketing decisions.

This qualification is designed for:

  • Aspiring marketers looking to begin a career in marketing
  • People who are new to a marketing or marketing-support role
  • Employees whose current role includes some marketing responsibilities
  • Anyone looking to build a solid foundation before progressing to a Level 4 CIM qualification

No previous marketing experience or knowledge is required.

You do not need any previous marketing experience or qualifications to study the Foundation Certificate in Professional & Digital Marketing.

If English is not your first language, you will normally need an IELTS Academic score of 6.5, with at least 6.0 in each component, a Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English at grade B or above, or an accepted equivalent. The qualification must usually have been achieved within the previous two years.

The total cost of your qualification is made up of:

  • Tuition fees charged by your chosen Accredited Study Centre
  • CIM membership, which is required to book assessments and access student resources
  • CIM assessment fees

Tuition fees vary between study centres, so we recommend comparing providers before enrolling.

The old page currently states total assessment fees of £250 at the Global Standard and Developing Markets rate, or £220 at the Emerging Markets rate, based on passing both modules at the first attempt. Resits incur additional fees. CIM membership starts from £65 per year.

Mandatory Marketing essentials Understand the role of marketing, customer behaviour, the marketing environment and how the marketing mix is applied and measured.
Specialist Content and channels Learn how to select appropriate online and offline channels, create effective marketing content and align both with audiences and campaign objectives.
Specialist Marketing insights Explore marketing research, customer insight and consumer behaviour, and learn how to use data and marketing audits to support decisions.

To achieve the Foundation Certificate, you must complete Marketing Essentials and choose either Content and Channels or Marketing Insights.

Each module is worth 12 credits. You can also complete all three modules to achieve the Extended Foundation Certificate.
