At Member and Fellow grades, taking part in CPD is optional. You can opt in at any point from the time you become a member and continue for as long as your membership remains current. However, once your have achieved Chartered Marketer status, active participation in the CPD programme is required in order to maintain your status.

What’s changed?

Your requirements will differ at each stage of your career, so we’ve modelled this CPD programme based on your development needs as a Member/Fellow.

All of the changes we’re making are designed to make your CPD journey much easier. Your schedule now ties in with your membership year – and we’ve changed the structure of your submission. Now, you’ll submit a reflective statement detailing the activities and experiences that have impacted on your development throughout the year.

Going forward, you’ll be able to access CPD online to help manage your progress, record and submissions with ease, and you can use our new app to instantly capture any learning opportunities that you want to add to your plan, wherever you are.

Why should you get involved?

The benefits of CPD are ultimately the same. You’ll gain tangible evidence of your commitment, competence and professionalism as well as enhanced opportunities in a competitive job market. You will also raise your credibility as a marketer and boost your own confidence in your abilities.

With another consecutive year of CPD, you’ll also become eligible to take the Chartered Marketer assessment and potentially join our community of marketing elite.

What counts towards your CPD record?

You can claim CPD for any activities which lead to a change in knowledge, ability, attitude or behaviour within marketing or general business areas. These can be qualifications, training courses, regional and national events or our e-learning resources and webinars available at CIM. They can also be activities you’ve identified from other sources and other companies, or even articles that you’ve found online or in the marketing press.

At this level, you’ll no longer be aiming for a minimum level of credits and won’t need to evidence your activity. It’s simply about reflecting on the activities and experiences you have had, identifying their impact on your work, goals, team and organisation, and determining how you will build on them going forward.

Networking is  also eligible for CPD, so if you’ve had a conversation that has changed the way you approach your role, or even just one piece of insight from a colleague that has affected your behaviour, record it and reflect on the impact it has had.

What will I get at the end of the programme?

Once you’ve successfully completed your submission, you’ll receive a CPD certificate. Completing two consecutive years of CPD at MCIM or FCIM grade will then allow you to access the online assessment for achieving Chartered Marketer status.
