Nudging and the use of behavioural science to inform marketing strategy has long been deployed by commercial companies to increase sales and change consumer behaviours. In the public sector, marketing and campaigning professionals embrace it to encourage behaviour change for personal or social benefit. Early adopter charities have been using behavioural prompts to generate additional millions for good causes each year. It would seem that nudging is a powerful tool in the hands of marketers and fundraisers.
So, is nudge our ‘magic bullet’?
In this first joint event with the Institute of Fundraising and CIM Charity and Social Marketing Group, we’ll explore nudging and its role within marketing and fundraising practices from the perspective of two expert speakers.
CIM social marketing specialist and former Director of the National Social Marketing Centre, Patrick Ladbury, will introduce the debate by giving a 101 overview of nudge theory. What is nudging using behavioural science insights and how can you use it in your organisation? Can it be the ‘miracle cure’ we are looking for to prompt people to support our causes and smash our targets?
Our second speaker, Rob Cope, Director of Development at the Institute of Fundraising and Remember A Charity, will then present a practical case study. He’ll share how Remember A Charity, a consortium of 200 UK charities, successfully adopted a new approach to grow giving, using behavioural insights and nudging tactics to generate additional millions for good causes every year.

Professor Ian Bruce will then open up the discussion to the floor. What advice would you like from our speakers about how to use nudge in your organisation? This is your chance to ask your burning questions and get answers from two nudge experts.
You can then carry on the discussions over complimentary food and drinks.
Registered UK charities can attend for a discounted rate of £10. Please call the Regional Events team on 01628 427340 to avail of the discount.
