This course is designed to develop proofreading and copy-editing skills for both digital and print media. From your social media posts to printed catalogues, effective proofreading requires not only an eye for detail, but also knowledge of grammar, punctuation, style and tone. The course will give you the knowledge and insight to improve the quality of your copy significantly, and ensure that the content is accurate and readable, so that it achieves the intended purpose. A simple typo can give the impression that you are not credible, and it can damage your brand’s reputation.

Course Director

Cole Hanrahan

Cole has written, proofread and edited copy for press releases, emails. magazines, loyalty programmes, mailings, websites, blogs, social media posts, newsletters, sales promotional materials, contract bids and books. He has also written and edited marketing plans, business cases, bids for funding, reports and other internal communications. His approach to proofreading is to not only evaluate copy for grammar, punctuation and overall correctness, but to challenge its purpose and its ability to achieve the expected outcome with the targeted recipients. He teaches delegates to proofread and challenge copy on the basis that it has to compete with thousands of other communications and achieve ‘cut-through’. It also has to be clear in terms of what the recipient should learn, feel or do as a result of reading it. His mission is to make his delegates more knowledgeable and assertive in proofreading, so that copy released by their organisation is credible, generates positive perception and achieves the desired outcome.
